After 1. d3
If you opponent does not play the "right response" [ the one you were looking for] -you can always follow up with g3.

Shraavanchess, I may be a Bird's Opening Player, but I am also a Dutch player, so 1. d3 f5 is also in my league. It gives White the opportunity to get into some cool From's lines with tempo if he likes, or some other ideas. Of course, 2. d4 is a Bird's Opening - Dutch Variation with reversed colors.
3. e3 is the main line. There are other options, but this one seems to be good. There is a lot of theory on this opening, but it isn't a taboo opening. Out of the alternatives (not e4, d4, c4 or Nf3), 1. b3 is a pretty good opening. Many don't play it because it doesn't take up a lion's share of the center with the first move.
