6..c5 and black will have threats of Qa5 if white tries to keep the bishop.
If 7.dxc5 then na6 hits the bishop and the pawn.
Nimzo Indian - How does Black take the bishop???

Why 9... Nxb4?
Why not 9... Qxa3!
Ran it through my engine, 9..Qxa3 is about -5.00 while 9..Nxb4 is almost -12.00, so I think we can remove the '?' from it.

Fantastic, thank you. Is it possible for me to also post a board to make any of my future posts a little easier to read/understand?

Just my to cents...
one of the possible continuation to try to keep the bishop:
The key of the saemish variation its that you got a doubled pawn in file c but its still one pawn more to ther center. Obviously black will point there, and eventually will bet the pawn but its not trivial and will take some temo. Meanwhile you will expand in center/king side.
If you dont want to bet into the saemish ant prefer the rubinstein.. then
another option is to try to put Qc2 before the exchange in order to avoidblack knight to to e4.
that said i dont feel the exchange of bishops that bad either. Usually i try to keep it too, but its not that mandatory. COndiser that if black exchange both the developed pieced, white will have a huge development advantage, so no problem in this side either.

What you posted is not the Rubinstein. 4.e3 followed by 5.Bd3 is the classical Nimzo and 4...Bxc3 is not a good move for black, it doesn't have a name.
It becomes a Rubinstein only if after 4.e3 black doesn't take and white plays 5.Ne2.

@plutonia.
I'm for sure not one of those that think he knows everything, but i own the book "The strategic Nimzo-indian 4.e3 A complete guide to the rubinstein variation" where the writer GM Ivan sokolov describe the rubinstein as the variation that starts with 4.e3. He consider all the lines starting with all black's option ftom the 4th move. All the lines starting with 4,e3 are rubinstein. If you want to discuss furher about that please contact him ( one of the most expert nimzo indian player in the world) not me.

Yes, when you are typing up your post, in the top left hand corner of the text box there is a small chess board icon, press on it and you can insert diagrams, games or puzzles.
Hi, this has been rattling my brains so I hope somebody can help me out.
After 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. Bd2... Why is it not possible for white to keep both bishops?
For e.g, 4...Bxc3 5. Bxc3 Ne4 is the considered play so that white cannot keep both bishops. But if 6. Bb4 Nc6 7. Ba3 white's bishop seems safe now?
What am I missing?
