Nimzo-Indian defense

I have been learning the Nimzo-Indian defenes and I love it! The only problem is my opponents can play a Catalan and avoid it! I tried transposing into a queen's indian defense but I don't like it and feel that white gets a really good game. What can I do against this?

a matter of style........how about .......d5 ?   which blunts the white bishop on g2.

What do you think about 3..b5?

D5 is not my style and queen's indian is too passive.

how about Nc6?

It doesn't help if white plays the actual Catalan, not this sideline

Plenty of options. Under this move order, 3...b5 is a good move.

I admit that after reading "d5 is not my style and queen's indian is too passive" my first reaction was not bothering replying, but still...

Given that he ruled out all the other stuff, the Benoni transposition is the only option.

What's wrong about a cheeky from b4?

I am thinking about using the Blumenfeld gambit against Reti/English players in certain variations. Is the Blumenfeld sound?

Well, you basically gotta suck up to it!  You basically have 3 choices:

3...d5 (Catalan)

3...c5 (fianchetto)

3...Bb4+ followed by 4...Be7 and 5...d5.

Otherwise, Nimzo is not for you, or any other defense with an early e6.

The vast majority that play 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 e6 will not play 3.d4.
