Hi, i'm a statistics student and i wish to test to see if there is a statistical correlation between choice of opening and personality type. Here's what i ask, Would you please post two things First, the openings you play for white and black Second, your personality type. If your not sure, there are free online myers briggs personality tests that only take a minute to fill rout. If you've had an actual personality test done all the better, but an online test will suffice. I will do myself for example Openings; queens gambit, french defence, slav defence Personality; INFP Thanks

A better idea is to create a private survey on one of these sites...

https://www.surveymonkey.com/
https://www.survio.com/

...instead of asking people to post personal information in public.

Ok, I'm a psycho who hates e4.

Very much doubt of such a statistically significant correlation.

Don't think the OP is asking for truly personal information, but his approach is definitely far from scientific anyway. Funnily so.

I play a bunch of openings as white and black.

If you really are taking statistics, I'm pretty sure you're doing a lot of the things they tell you not to do, since I'm also taking statistics and I don't think they'd like it if I conducted my surveys in this way.

Advice: Present us with the options beforehand and then let us choose. i.e. give us a number of different openings (specify from which side, as well) and have us rank them in order of favorite to least favorite, and then give a number of choices for us to describe personality (maybe Myers-Briggs).

Additionally, voluntary response is less than ideal, although I imagine it's tough to avoid if you're trying to do it on chess.com.

If you want people to respond to  your survey, you have to make it easier on them by providing the links. Not many people know how/where to take the survey that determines personality.

The other problem is you are asking what openings we "play." That is very unspecific. As Black, you are responding to many different moves. It could e4 or d4 and then a bunch of other moves as well. But even as White, I play both e4 and d4, depending on who I am playing, how I am feeling, and what is most fresh in my memory. Perhaps frame the question as what our favorite opening is for White and Black.

Your personality type is:
Advocate (INFJ-a)

White: (1) Sicilian, Najdorf, English Attack or (2) Queen's Gambit
Black: (1) Sicilian, Najdorf; (2) Dutch Stonewall
SJFG

It changes for me sometimes, but I think I got INTJ or INTP most often (when I was very interested in those tests; I haven't taken any in awhile though).

I play the English as White and the Caro-Kann and Slav as Black (although my repertoire occasionally changes).

Thank you for your responses. I just wanted to respond to a few people as to the meaning of what I am doing here. I'm in a stats class, but i'm in no way a stats major or anything like that. I'm just doing a project, and I thought that this was an interesting concept that I could run a t-test on with some data. I just want some broad general data to make an interesting point, that is all. I'm not trying to encroach on personal information, just trying to make a cool study.
