Why is trap nr1 a trap? I play 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 Bf5 all the time, and I feel like it's fine after Qf3, and bishop take pawn if exf7. Is it really that bad for black?

I recently lost to this opening

but I figure it was due to my playing, not the opening, but I don't know

I also don't understand why NR1 is a "trap"

Also, did I miss something? In NR4 after white's Bg5+, why wouldn't black just Ne4xBg5? Instead of moving their King awkwardly.

It is discovered double check. Black must move their king in NR4

@tigerbaitlsu Ah, I see now. Thanks

@twighead Yes, I would like to see some moves versus the Bf5 move instead of these knight moves, because I feel like that is what happens more often.

These aren't traps. These are mistake by bad Caro-players happy.png it's imo hard to find an objectively good and also tricky-to-play (for black) line against the Caro..

This line is a trap that I've gotten a IM twice in live chess:

The first position is not a good trap, it's the well known Bayonet Attack has 2 master games, one draw and one Black win. White played it against me once and I won as Black.  Black should play 4...Be4 before ...Bg6, not 4...Bg6 because it temps White to overextend his K-side Pawns:

A fantasy variation trap if they get greedy with the Bishop and pawn

gik-tally

Played this exact ending 3 times already and punish a whole bunch more who have never seen a Bxf7+ pin break.

I stumbled onto the mieses TRYING to maroczy fantasy, which wasn't working, and when I confused it with the ONLY line i've ever equalized against the french with, the 3.Be3 alapin diemer, I started crushing with my King's gambit/BDG skillset, followed my stats and never looked back
