dear chess.com

i have been going crazy (like many of others) looking for the main lines of the openings to study in a simple, step by step, way, with graphics and explanations of the moves. You'd think it would be easy to find. Yes there are tons of videos...none of it sticks in my head or lets me play with the moves and study the way id imagine would make the most sense on a computer.

 FINALLY

i noticed the small grayed out "more" on the page just below the opening's description. Click it and the page expands... LO AND BEHOLD everythign  I expected with descriptions and animated moves.

maybe i'm an idiot, but that's a huge feature for noobs you're practically hiding! i had literally been looking at everything, books, yt, nothing was right. finally found it.

CHESS.COM MAKE YOUR GREAT OPENINGS PAGE MORE OBVIOUS! consider eliminating the "more" and just have it all there.

i find it far more useful since i'm studying the actual lines and i want the theory and context. i need to "speak the language" before i try to understand whats happening in a master game or my own.

I wanted this specific info and in this format. I was concerned it didnt exist anywhere, and i'm relieved it does, so i'm telling everyone in the world where it is. Chess.com hopefully will see this and perhaps collapse the useless comment section, instead of the informational part EVERYONE is actually looking for.

Having just been on this search, i can tell you many are looking for this. they want to know openings but  they cant find a straight forward answer, only videos of guys being vague "so after that, well, then you can do this, or you can do that."  they talk too fast and act like its common knowledge that isnt terribly important.  and yet we all know it is not insignificant.

i feel stupid for not seeing the small "More v" link to expand the page.

the point:

If someone wants to study the openings in a simple, graphical format it is here...it has always been here. and thats just another reason this site really is totally worth paying for.

sorry for lengthy explanation but people here (any chess site really) can be such pedantic snobs i feel like i have to make myself very clear.

@bmfdv My profile is about like yours and I too have been looking for this.  Your post has opened my eyes like emerging from Plato's Cave for the first time! Great find.

@HHD3 awesome! its been a big help and @chesswithnickolay now the database is way more informative! its only been day!  seriously the YT videos arent gibberish anymore. it was the key that made all the other info click for me.

Simple solution!  Forget the dumb videos.  Forget databases!

The following are the easiest steps to learning an opening with diagrams and explanations:

1) Go to amazon.com and purchase your opening of choice in the Move by Move series.  For example, French Defense Move by Move by Lemos.

2) Wait for your order to arrive.

3) Close your laptop, turn off your phone, get out a board and pieces, and spend the next 6 months studying the book.  If you study properly, a game should take about 2 hours to analyze.

why spend real money when similar resources exist online?

books are only for 2000+ or 1800+

1. "why spend money"

good thing chesscom premium is free, so no one needs to spend any money

2. "books are only for 2000+ or 1800+"

fortunately being an elitist is still open to everyone
