I think the Ponziani is practically refuted by this line

It's tough to play as black has to prove the compensation but black is actually better despite being down 2 pieces. There are a lot of ways white can go horribly wrong as well.

The reason it works is because the move c3 fails to develop either the queenside or kingside so white is left really stuck and vulnerable to black's initiative. Basically none of white's pieces can move.

There are a lot of ways black can get an advantage against the Ponziani though. The line you showed is an easier way.

Well its seems for everyone but me every opening is winning : (

Every sound opening has chances for both players but some openings are fundamentally flawed concepts, like the Ponziani.

not if I am playing : ( For my opponent its 87% win and 12.5% lost and .5% draw : (

mrOpenRuy

Thx

It's ok. You can get better. Just keep trying. Learn this against Ponziani.

And as white try the Ruy Lopez or some aggressive Italian line like the Evans Gambit.

An example line.

exactly! 🐸

The Ruy Lopez is essentially a significant improvement on the Ponziani as it aims to play c3-d4 after white has properly developed.

samuel the open ruy also exists dont forget (white does not get his c3-d4 push and needs to know the plans and some theory

The Open Ruy Lopez is also an interesting variation. You do get in d4-c3 technically. It's just that the e pawns get traded off. The e5 pawn can be a thorn for black and will be traded for the f pawn.

9. Nbd2, the Bernstein variation, can limit black's options and make it simpler.

I play the d3 Ruy Lopezzes against people who play the Berlin and Open Morphy. No shame in my game. We're playing the Pilnik, Duras, or Martinez, and you're just along for the ride. (Granted I'll be learning the Berlin and Open Morphy soon)

Ehh it usually transposes to the Pilnik, which is an interesting variation of the Closed Morphy, besides, I'm not about to play into others' prep when I myself know none of the lines.

below the master level d4 lines are better, d4 lines at master level are theory packed and you want to get people out of theory

but like also look at one of the d4 lines

its more open, both sides have plans and are fighting actively

Open Ruy is cool 😎
