i was wondering which openings would be good for black and good for white..

That is a really general question. Even for white, you have Fischer saying 1.e4 is "best by test" and then Kasparov starting his book off with saying that 1.d4 is the only logical move or something. If you are a beginner, I would recommend 1.e4, and related openings. The first ones I think most people learn are the "four knights" and the "giuoco piano". For Black, your choices depend on what white plays. A popular defence that is reasonably simple to start with is the French defence. If you need anything specified or diagrams send me a message. Good luck.

French defense,Sicilian defense are very good openings against e4 but today many players also play d4-Queen Gambit you should explore that opening

Sicilian is tough to play for beginners , I would recommend e5 against e4 , or French as second choice .

I cannot believe you resurrected a post from the year this site was created. This is a fifteen year old post. Incredible.
