You should look for positions with imbalances that play to your strengths.  A broad generalization is to play gambits in which you can out pressure on your opponent.  Force them to defend and they will likely make a mistake.  Even if they consolidate, your superior skill should give you good chances to hold the ending.  With black, the Benko gambit is easy to play and will not be handled well by the average 1600.  The middlegame themes are repetitive, you will probably have a time advantage when the fireworks start.  It's also a great opening to learn for your chess development, as it will teach you to be ok being down a pawn for long time.

 

With white, there are lots of good choices, but a system like the King's Indian Attack might be a good choice.

Evans gambit is solid and very aggressive kings gambit is good. Any mainline Sicilian is a good choice
