The queen's gambit has been faithful to me since the 1970s. Other openings come and go, but I've tried and adopted many. One of my friends told me that I'm never happy until I'm down a pawn, and I certainly aim to force Black to maintain an extra pawn in certain lines of the QGD, such as my anti-Meran.
With the Black pieces, I always feel a sense of satisfation when my opponent lets me go into a main line of the Volga. Alas, most White players are reluctant to gain a supported passed pawn on the a-file by move eight.
There isn't a "best" opening.
I bet rich would disagree.
He would say the tromp is the best.
