I am looking to learn new openings for white and black and would appreciate suggestions to consider.

Please explain why you suggest each opening.

Thank you!

White- Evans gambit (really tactical, gives you a lot of ideas about e4 openings, my favorite gambit, can teach you how to handle initiative), Ruy Lopez (very strategical), Queen's Gambit (very strategical as well)

Black-Sicelian (for many reasons, but it is really an important opening that noone can go far without knowing), Slav defense (an excellent answer to the queen's gambit, suits every type of chess player because it can lead to a variety of positions)

I used to play the Dragon back in high school, though I didn’t understand it, I had success with it.

I should look at it again in detail.

Funny, I was just studying the dragon. A really good openings, can create black square weaknesses if white isn't careful

I used to get into tough binds and learned how to fight my way out. If I pick it up again I’ll have to address that issue.

With a Daily rating of 1500, you should learn to use explorer and play the percentages. Forget about spending too much time on any one opening. Play several and try to get a grasp of what is happening tactically and strategically.

Good advice Ziryab. Thanks.

The openings I have been using recently have started to hit a wall with opponents making things difficult. I think variety will make things interesting.

Quasimorphy

All openings will have walls where opponents make things difficult.

Do you want to get better [while losing more games] or win as much as possible [and stay about at your current level]?     For the first, the ideas and patterns of play in the KID (vs d4) and classical Sicilian or Ruy Lopez (vs e4) are so rich and interesting it is worth it to lose a bunch with them. For the latter, play the London system or stonewall as white. As black, stonewall dutch vs d4 and center counter against e4 [Scandanavian] are what I think have clear patterns of play.
