Positional Sicilian?

Johan Hellsten "Play the sicilian Kan" is good book on Kan. He mostly suggests early Qc7. At first seemed a bit unusual: Black makes number of pawn moves, does not have any pieces developed and makes move with Queen. Looks suspect:
1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cd4 4 Nd4 a6 5 Nc3 Qc7

But it is playable.

I've also recently started playing the Sveshnikov (in razorblade12's fun tournament - thanks!) and I would likewise recommend it. Although, there may be more tactics than other variations. Positional play here revolves around control of d5, and I would say d6 as well. The d5 hole isn't always as severe as it seems, by the way, if Black handles it well.

I am glad you enjoyed the tournament! Thanks for getting involved in it!

From the White side I like to play the Closed Sicilian when I want to go positional. From the Black side, I favor the Modern (2. ... e6) Variation for positional play.

Indeed, as white I'm playing the closed right now. The Kan book I just got is very good so far. The opening seems to be just what I am looking for. It offers winning chances for the better strategic player, at the same time it's solid and not too theoretical. I'm playing the ruy lopez so I can't afford to learn a huge amount of sicilian theory too.

I am thinking of taking up the schevenigan Sicilian starting 1. E4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6   no Bb5ch , it seams solid, any opinions?

The Keres attack 6 g4 is tough.
