Has people have noted the true KIA is with 3d3 instead of 3g3, so that after 3..d5 white can avoid queen exchange with 4Nb-d2. (Appparantly there is a weird thing in the caro kann that goes 1.e4 c6 2d3 d5 3Nf3 and white does care about the queen exchange, but it looks very meh, to me.)
3g3 is a thing in itself and in Kasparov's Test of time has a game against Spassky with it, typically goes into IQP positions.
Oh yeah, the Breyer Caro. The issue is that White simply has a better position heading into this endgame.
