Look at the Chessopedia on this site, it's under the read heading. That should help you out.
Quick Question

Yeah, what Sheath said. I've had that site bookmarked since I found it 4 years ago when I was writing a report about chess strategy. It is an excellent site for studying chess openings with.

You might try LEARN followed by OPENINGS followed by BOOK OPENINGS and then use the SORT drop down that suits you best - You might also want to own a book like "Modern Chess Openings" (I think the 15th edition is the most current) or something else similar to it. If you stick with the English I think you'll find it fun and productive. I don't play it myself but have a friend who is very successful with it.
I'm new here and fairly new to taking chess seriously. I started reading a few books and a lot of them give names to openings and counters. A lot of these books expect automatic recognition of these; therefore I’m left having to look it up each time a new term comes up. Is there a list or table that anybody knows of where I could look at the names of everything?
