quick shutdown to Caro-Kann advance? (for black)

In the c5 line, how exactly can you get shot down by Bb5+ and Qa4? That idea doesn't look particularly dangerous. Solve that and the line is playable for you, yes?

Well, yes. I just find it quite risky.

How about the French Transfer 3...e6 ?
A perfectly sensible idea, as long as you keep the position closed until your pieces are developed.

Oh, 5.a3, I didn't know about this move. Probably would have helped me out.
I've been playing the 2 knights caro for years now. If I switch back I'll have to remember this.

Ok, so this is a line that's supposed to be fine.
But I have to admit I'd rather play the white side of this

Yeah, white gets some easy moves while black will need to understand how to equalize.
But I guess that's how a lot of openings are with black. You can't get an easy game if your opponent is well prepared in a main line.

Wow, nice game.
Wish I had known this stuff a few years ago to beat up on my friend who liked to play this way. He doesn't even play the caro anymore

a3 is nowadays the main line at high level and almost refutes 3...c5 in my opinion...
For example :
Nice! I had noticed this in chessbase, but didn't know this was a well known idea.
Isn't it a bit premature to talk for refutation?
You mean such as 6...Be7? Thats the one that the engine gives a tiniest advantage to black ...but maybe its an error.
