I can't seem to remember how to do it. Could someone put it on here and any of the more expierienced players give any tips on it? Or someone give a different Black opening, I only have the kings indian as my backup, but that doesn't work for me on quick games, or against many in my chess club.

I am surprised that you can't remember theory on Scandinavian but you can for the KID (or apparently not if it doesn't work frequently for you).

Personally I use the Franco-Sicilian a lot, or some other aggressive version of the French defense, against e4.

Thanks I'll look that up.

Just don't play this:

It goes like this; 1.e4..d5 ( Which is the centre counter/Scandinavian defence) 2.exd5 which is most common response...Qxd5 again most common one (Nf6 is also popular, 3. Nc3...Qa5 (Also some play Qd6)

How ever I do not recommend you learn this opening as  a main line for the time being, because it's not easy to master and can be risky to play.

I believe it has a similar structure and play as the Caro Kan defence. I think  you should learn the KID properly because it is more sound an opening.

I have been playing Scandinavian for at least 11 years, let me know if you have particular questions. But the main line is e4 d5 ed Q:d5 Nc3 Qa5 d4

I don't like this line at all. I'm getting it more often with the Black pieces than the main line and I have no idea why this is happening. The main line causes Black to lose a tempo. Play the main line! I am only helping White with the free tempo!

Here's an example of a side line I am really getting tired of playing with the Black pieces. My guess is that White does not want my queen developed early in the opening.

I've also seen this line which I really don't care for at all. I had never seen it before and had to think for a few seconds on move two. Most unpleasant!

One more unpleasant sideline, avoiding Qxd5.

Last, and this is a solid line that Black needs to know.

Ahhh ok. That's cool then. Cool

How about Bf5 after:  e4 d5 e5....

Game explorer reccomends it. Statistically e5 seems to be a blunder by white.

play will probably transpose whether black plays 2... c5 or 2... Bf5.  The reason it is statistically better for black is because it is literally a caro kann advance variation with black having an extra tempo.

Isn't 2.Nc3 dxe4 3.Nxe4 Bf5 4.Ng3 Bg6 pretty good for black? Meeting d4 with c6 of course if you're me and like the Caro-Kann. in which case 1...c6 is a more reliable move-order

Some players don't play common book lines against the Scandinavian, probably because they hate it so much. Here are two games where White plays the strange 2.f3.

Is there a move White can not play on move two against the Scandinavian. I would have thought that 2.f3 would be bad for White.

2.d3 works agaisnt the Scandinavian.

2.d3 where the queens come off the board. I found many games with this line. I only looked for the highest rated players, so I figure that they know how to play the Scandinavian.

Ivanchuk did fine with the White pieces against another elite player with Nc3 in 2010. Perhaps there is some new theory on Nc3.

Last one. This is where d5-d4 was played and how Morozevich countered.

I wouldn't use GM games to study openings, unless you are at least a 2000+ player. There are some weird variations with f3 and d3 but black should equalize easilly unless white play the main, book line. No need to re invent the wheel
