. . . Second there is no reason, whatsoever, to say that 2. Bc4 is an inferior move.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.  It may not be the most flexible but it quite a sound and natural developing move.

It's inferior not because white gets a bad position, it's just inferior to other 2nd moves that don't instantly give up your first move advantage, which explains its absence from top level games.

1.a3 wont give you an inferior game either, it's just not the best white can try for.

I really like e6.  Can't say it's a panacea, but it's been working good for me.

I stick to e5 as Black in my opennings.

It's absolutely rediculous to claim that Bc4 gives up the advantage of the first move.  That's silly, do you have proof?  The reason that it's not played is because its a very early committment of the KB, mainly, b4 black has shown how he will play his center pawns.

My point was that it is inferior to other 2nd moves.  Because you change the subject to why it's inferior I assume you just want to argue.  I said it's because it gives up the first move advantage, you say it's because it commits the bishop too early.

You don't like the way I said it, but other than that it looks like we're not disagreeing about anything.

Black is winning 60% of the games after 2 Bc4 according to my database. There are a full dozen moves for white that score 43% , or better for white , compared to the 32% that white scores with 2 Bc4. I would say that this is clear evidence that 2 Bc4 is an inferior choice for white at move 2.
