Something new for me, opening with 1. d4

What I liked about this game: I played a new opening and managed to obtain a good opening position and a middlegame that was full of posibilities; it was a mini!

Normally I play e4; in my quest to gain more chess knowledge, I am trying out new openings and learn positional play, rather than be an attacking player all the time; old habits tend to take over...a lot. Lately I have tried Bird's Opeing (f4) because it's somewhat related to one of my favorite openings, the King's Gambit; if Black plays 1. e5 in response, I can transpose to the KG by playing 2. e4. I am trying to learn d4 in addition to f4; once I have sufficient understanding of d4, I will also try to learn the English, c4.

Since I am still finding positions difficult to understand I still tend to attack when I feel I can instead of looking for more positional moves. The game turned into an early attack because I felt it was warranted by my opponents early Queen incursion into my territory while leaving his King in the center of the board unprotected. Comments/Analysis are very welcome...I am new to this "positional" type of play; I'm still trying to learn how to.

Seems like you played the game well. I'm more so a positional player opposed to tactical. When I make my videos and post them on YouTube I'm sure that I reference positional features often. You might be able to pick some things up from them. In any event, good game!
