Okay...the WAK (Wow Attack Kills) Gambit is what we are calling this formerly unnamed gambit. The idea to cover the WAK Gambit came to us by benedictus rated 1775 (Online Chess) asking for the line 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Bc4 Nxe4 6.Qh5 g6 7.Qd5.
Now Black will not play this way, and a better try for Black is obviously 6…e6.
My engine evaluates the given position as -0.28. But there are no games in the Chess.com database with Black playing the gutsy, but best 5…Nxe4. After the correct 5…Nxe4 there seems to be a better move than 6.Qh5, in playing 6.0-0 which leaves White with the initiative, but if Black playes correctly White will be slightly less than equal. But 6.Qh5 is also strong, along with a move that is not best, but will probably throw your opponent off, 6.Bxf7. Here is an example line for 6.Bxf7, make shure to look at the moves list for sidelines.
So after our main move 6.0-0, 6…d5 looks to be best.
Now the evaluation is -0.26, but after 7.Re1 I think that it is about equal, but Black is doing well. 7.Re1 is probably the best out of many others like 7.Bb3, 7.Bd3, 7.Bb5 and 7.Nd2.
Now 8.Bd3 is obviously best, with an evaluation of -0.04. Now Black should play the strong 8…Bc5.
So Black is fine against the WAK Gambit with accurate play, but is an interesting try for White. Thank you all, and credit to benedictus for the idea. Make sure to visit the Strange Sicilian Lines: Home Page and leave an idea.
