Taking up the sicilian!

I am thinking about taking up the sicilian. I have started playing 2.Nf3 in the sicilian now and i enjoy playing the positions that come out of the najdorf. Now for the black side, where to start? Well you have to start somewhere. Soon i am going to post my games as black where i have played the sicilian and hope for some feedback. Good idea?

I will post game 1 as soon as it is finnished.

Ok.

sharp attacks for both sides are way to play it with pawn storms on opposite sides and plenty of tatics

I love playing the sicillian but I hate playing against it :D

cruzfranzenrico

play the najdorf!

I was intimidated when starting the Sicilian.

It just seemed too complex for me.

I decided to start with the Hyper-Accelerated Dragon as it seemed to limit the number of permutations I would have to deal with.

Any comments from those more experienced than I (most of you) are welcomed.

chessbee thanks for your input. I am confused though, do you mean the dragon will fail or their opening will fail and why?

Elubas

What I like about playing against the sicilian as white is that I can pick something besides the main line (like the rossolimo) and can still get an advantage out of it since I'm white, especially if I know the line better than the opponent.

xblackx

i though white wants to stay in mainline more than black does .

michaelmcrobert

xblackx why would that be?

Elubas

white can still get an advantage in other lines.

michaelmcrobert

I agree with Elubas.

I've been considering the Sicilian for a long time. But I've never played it in tournament play.  I think the sicilian is an opening that you need to be booked up on.

I'm considering playing the Paulsen variation which I believe can come from the Taimanov variation?

Actually I could probably play the Hedgehog as I've had similar setups using the Queens Indian defence.  I like how the hedgehog is more of a slow manouvering Sicilian rather than an all out attacking sicilian.

on the other hand you have to know what to play against the Smith-Morra Gambit, Moscow, Rossolimio, c3 sicilian, GP attack etc etc.

Now I remember why I dont play the sicilian.   Too hard :D  (Just joking btw)

Try them all!

I liked the dragon, sveshnikov, and currently the Taimanov.

If you decide to stick with one and want to learn all about it I can maybe recommend a book or two.

michaelmcrobert

Yeah that would be good, or a dvd or two? :)

ericmittens

yup, DVDs too!
