First time I ever saw the Sicilian I played c3 in response as it was the sort of move that happened in response to c5 in the French which i was vaguely aware of. Such a newbie then, but that was 20 years ago.
the c3 sicilian
I play the Alapin because to be quite honest I don't want to spend the time having the learn the theory behind the Dragon, Accelerated Dragon, Najdorf, Scheveningen, Sveshnikov, etc.
I do play the Najdorf as black, and I do know the Dragon a bit. I'd like to learn the Scheveningen as well. All of which is to say that some day I'll probably steer away from playing the Alapin all the time as white.
Does anyone here play the line:
1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 4. d4 cxd4 5. Qxd4
I am playing it in a correspondence game (the jury is still out) and like the line, but this line doesn't seem to be all that much in favor. Still, I find it to be interesting and wonder if anyone else does as well?
A c3 sicilian is a basic opening that comes lots of times at national chess tournament or even a basic Saturday tournament.
