I'm not sure why people keep relating this opening to the Pirc when the opening is the Philidor defense, lion variation. I know a couple people who play it and one guy uses it for black and white and he is in the 2000+ range.

It has been compared to the old Indian actually. Do you know anything about the old Indian Pellik, like the move order. I am trying to get use to this opening?

There is a DVD on it here http://www.amazon.com/Foxy-Chess-Openings-ChessCentrals-Book/dp/B004NVVGOG I've watched it, it's pretty good.

If d4/c4/e4 it becomes an Old Indian.

If e4/d4 the "Pirc" move order is used to reach a Philidor with two options: e x d4 with "rolling up" on the e-pawn (Antoshin Variation) or the (closed) Hanham variation.  The move order is important because in the older Philidor move order (Nd7 without getting in Nf6) Black can get burned badly with Bc4, a central pawn exchange, and Qd5, threatening f7.

The Lion specialists usually want a closed Hanham where Black can play h6/g5 and move a Kninght into f4.  (The Antonshin variation is close to the fianchetto KID.)  There is a famous closed Hanham game played in the 1920s (I think) where this Kside expansion was done and Black won with a Kside attack.

The Philidor Files is a better book to read if you want to start playing the Hanham or any other version of the Philidor.
