What are you? simple?
How is black winning a pawn? 5. d3 dxe 6. dxe Qxe+ 7.Be2 and material balance is restored but with black 2 tempi down.
pardon my beginnerness, but I have NO idea how black got into those positions in the first two diagrams... I follow the third one that shows the moves but don't see how it can lead to the king out in the board... could someone put a diagram up or explain that...
WAIT a moment. In your main line, you need to calculate the checks for white.
It seems I missed a capture and check
Might work in a blitz game, but I have my doubts about this being effective given a match where temporary confusion creates a crisis because of a timer.

lots of great info on this opening, and all up until bobbereight showed that pawn capture + check for black, I was excited to pull off that free rook move with the night fork

Having followed all of you through all of this has created a real CRISIS for me
1. I'm in trouble with my wife because she called me 15 min ago and I told her I'd be there in a min. This is all your fault because I've learned nothing from all of this except it would have been better to obey my wife.

2. Now this unanswered problem is in my mind I won't be able to sleep tonight without a handful of sleeping pills and tomorrow I'll be a zombie, this too is all your fault !!! I hope you are all Happy !

To sum it all up for me: Don't play the Damiano defense if you are black lol... I'm sure some people find some good in it but I won't take my chances.

I know of a class A player who uses it and scores well. Bobby Fischer couldn't take it down. Miguel Najdorf used it and lived to tell the tale. Which is to say, it's not the best opening, but it's also not so easy to destroy when the clock is ticking and all you remember is the initial knight sacrifice. In fact, you may land in hot water!
I've a few problems with this Damiano openings... some people leave the king vulnerable like this diagram showed. This will force you to sacrifice your queen for bishop.
Big mistake... after Bc4+, Black's king leads white to win.
This diagram shows the Daminao. It's really effective!
