The most beautiful chess opening?

Aestethically speaking I like the Latvian Gambit (even the name is appealing (: )

A famouse game that Fischer lost against a Latvian (with some interesting background stories):

The Najdorf and the KID have always that appeal that you don't really understand, they are beautiful.

Not sure what classifies as "beautiful", but I thought this was so beautiful, I didn't want to move.

I fell hard for englund gambit hartlaub charlick variation just watching igor' video coming from the tactically despicable stonewall.

Everyone that hates it for sacking 2 center pawns just can't see the BEAUTY of a semi-open e file and fully open d. I WANT ALL PAWNS OUT OF MY WAY! I hate pawns, I want 'em gone... so much, that I'll use a minor piece as a can opener, which is a feature of hartlaub charlick. It speaks MY LANGUAGE.

It's very tactical and trappy, generally allows easy strong development, puts a lot of pressure on white, and gives black plenty of space to re-group when needed for plan Bs. Space, mobility, initiative and PAWNS OUT OF THE way are a dream come true and NO ONE has played the "main line" yet no matter how many haters try to summon that boogeyman.

I begged and begged for EXACTLY that opening until i quit chess because i couldn't take stonewalling any more and hate fianchettos, the "only" (GM approved) tactical choice for closed games. I know I offered both center pawns as an option to gambit 1.d4, yet no-one suggested HC. If anyone suggested main line englund... NO THANKS!!

One person's unsound ugly is another's problem solving supermodel.

When a 2200 suggested danish gambit a couple decades ago, I didn't like the looks of it one bit, but now look at it as the most open, aggressive, INTUITIVE and even simple gambit that exists if one is daring enough to double D.

I'm just fine with kings gambit, even if I don't play the strongest lines, especially the Quade, but gosh golly it's nothing like double D. Pawns in the way? What's that?

1. Maybe some kind pf crazy Dragon sicilian?!
2. Pterodactyl defence.

Im_a_Crow

Ruy lopez chigorin variation

crazedrat1000

most aesthetic opening would be... dragon sicilian, yugoslav attack... they say the dragon got its name because blacks setup looks like the constellation draco -

Hahahaha

Silly Spaghettio - The positions I showed do exist

You was half correct, Super player.

The 1st position is the Nadjorf - Anti-English Attack variation

Main moves for white are h3, h4, or Be3.

Sometimes, people mess up and play f3 because their still trying to get into their Yugoslav/English Attack pawn set up. When they do mess it, Black is able to do 1 of the most amazing tactical shots in all of chess which is why I love this variation.

The 2nd position is known as Pterodactyl Defense or sometimes called Dzindi Indian.

The best move for white is to play d5, but if you play this line long enough you will run into people who take pawn because they don’t know what to do and so that is how the position can happen.

There you go my friends!

I already gave the answer to my post in the post right above your response.

Even though, I gave the answer.

You still managed to get 1/4th of your counter answer wrong.

——————

The moves you gave in 1st position are correct.

The name of the line you mentioned for 1st position is also correct.

——————

The moves you gave in 2nd position is correct thru transposition, but generally it isn’t played that way.

The name of the line you mentioned for 2nd position is incorrect.

The Modern Defense is a line played against 1.e4

The Benoni Defense doesn’t sacrifice the Dark Bishop.

The name of the line is called Pterodactyl Defense.

Alternative line names include:

- Dzindzi Indian (Which I am probably Butchering)

- Snipers Defense

- Beef Eater Defense

Those are alternative line names the position has been called throughout the years which I would have accepted as right answer as well.

The Beef Eater Defense is a slightly different variation vs. the variation I showed. However, Some Databases will mix it up because databases don’t have brain and sometimes the people inputting the information doesn’t necessarily know the subtle differences in the position.
