The Yereslov Variation

White can explore Balck weak c6 square with 4. Bb5+ and the night have to wait to move to Nc6 square.

3 ... c5 immediately attack the center d4 square is preferable.

Let me introduce myself. I am the president and founder of the Anti Yereslov Defense Association. In the text that follows, I will explain why stopping Yereslov Defense is fundamental to the survival of our society.

Throughout human history, sanctimonious slubberdegullions have always been arrogant. So it should come as no surprise that Yereslov Defense advocates are trying hard to convince a substantial number of biggety party animals to enslave us, suppress our freedom, regiment our lives, confiscate our property, dictate our values, and name our openings.

Although I generally believe that the less said about Yereslov Defense, the better, I do feel obligated to say a few things about Yereslov Defense's longiloquent, pusillanimous proposed naming schemes.

Ostentatious knuckle-draggers of various stripes rescue antinomianism from the rubbish heap of history, dust it off, slap on a coat of cheap sophistry, and market it as new and improved.

That said, we mustn't lose sight of who the real enemy is: Yereslov Defense and its nocuous acolytes. We are at a crossroads. One road leads into the light of a bright, shining future in which squalid, philopolemical derelicts like Yereslov Defense are absolutely absent. The other road leads into the darkness of sciolism. The question, therefore, is: Who's driving the bus?

4.Nf3 is probably the most accurate move (hoping for 4...Ba6?! 5.Bxa6 Nxa6 6.c4!) - white will then answer 4...c5 with 5.c3, and 4...Qd7 with 5.c4!

Neil McDonald advocated 3...b6 in an elementary French book a few years ago (he did not credit the idea to Yereslov, though).

Personally I don't like the idea- Black's most interesting way to exchange the c8 bishop early on may well be 3...Bd7 4.Nf3 a6!?

I started writing a response then scanned down. This is almost exactly what I was writing, except that I also mentioned Lev Psakhis' earlier analysis of the variation and I didn't analyse 4...a6!?

+1 to Pfren!

4...Bb5+ isn't an original idea. It's the mainline in the 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb5 4. e5 Ne7 5. a3 Bxc3 6. bxc3 b6 line of the Winawer, and it's far from a refutation. If it was, no one would playing the line.

The thing is there is a better move 3. .... c5 and that's more than enough. 3. .... b6 is inferior.
