3 was for stoping his d pawn from comming up to d5 and for putting presure on c7  and part of the gambit set up it's self no u cant do this with better players and thats why i did it, the person was not a realy expereinced player, proby in the 100's or 1100's if they were at chesss.com, so i thought i could try the gambit, and as said above it worked, i got the win, ty stephen.i didnt want my knight on c 3 at first i wanted to play the morra smith gambit at first, letting him take all 3 pawns and recapturing with my bishop, after i castled, then decided i could try the trap, when he didntletting him take all 3 pawns maks for extreamly fast devolopement, and the castle.all the bishops are open everything pretty much.

all your nicknames are really...picturesque I must say.

Mine's down to being a Tolkien fan - it's "Star-harp" in Sindarin Elvish, a name I made up for a fictional Elvish minstrel. And yours...?

It's sounds as if you're much more of a Tolkien fan than me but I recognised the reference the first time I saw your username. It reminded me of the name Gil-Galad ('Star-Light' ?) but it's years since I last read The Silmarillion so I'm a little rusty on the lore of Middle Earth in the first age.

OMG:  I just realised - I'm a Lord of the Rings nerd     Laughing

i am sorry a 3 was to stop his bishop from comming up to check my king, while sacing all 3 of my pawns, and d4 is the start of the gambit, he takes that pawn then u offer the c pawn next and then castel and let him take the b pawn and recapture with your bishop.

I got that SHARK-BLUE, four times ! Are you having trouble posting ?

I could see you were trying for something else at first & then slid into the Legal Mate but you really need to push the Legal quite hard to make it work because there are so many defences against it. Do you realise how cooperative your opponent was in that game?

I've checked your game again & I'm nonplussed - you moved your pawn to a3 to stop ...Bb4 but after your opponent had played d6, thereby making Bb4 impossible !

nice pun!

SHARK-BLUE_DRAGON

i started a morra smith gambit but when he didnt keep takin the pawns, i brought my a pawn up to stop him from threatning my knight so i could transpose to the trap, which needs that knight for it to work.

SHARK-BLUE_DRAGON

and i didnt lol about my opponet, i lol ed about it not being a great game , but that it was a simple game, and that i got away with the move, most times one will not.

blasterdragon

white needs to play h3 so the bishop is unprotected so if black takes knight white still has equal material here is a better trap:

Labeling your moves as "horrible" might be debatable, but SHARK-BLUE_DRAGON your reaction was far worse.

JMB2010

If you post your game, don't expect everyone to pat you on the back. Some people will find mistakes and give constructive criticism. There is no need for any outbursts. And there is certainly no need to make things up, like that you played "book moves."

Do not come to my page and call my chess horrable, or any one else here at chess.com,theres no reason for that, except maby your self esteem is so low, u have to try and blow out another man"s candel to let your own light shine, thats lame and a verry dark and dim, (pun intended) attitude. and verry rude, and as a matter of fact, all the moves i made were text book moves, It  shows how much u know.and not only about the game u punk, but also about sportsmanship.it's little punks like u that give chess players a bad name, the history of chess players, the best anyway, are viewed to be more refined, gentelman and ladys, of the king's game, as clearly you are neither.

You posted a game publically, looking for commentary. You got a very honest assessment and your outburst makes you look very bad. Frankly you played moves that would have gotten you slapped by a strong player. The feedback was actually quite constructive.

a 3 is a move played by many masters as well as many others, u need to go watch some masters games sonny, lol.

Not sure what you are trying to get across here, but 2. d4 is not played by any masters playing serious games against other master. It just isn't sound.

3. Bc4 is not the normal continuation by any stretch. QxP is. If you are playing the center-counter, then you are looking for your Queen to come out early.

2. d4 is not common, but there has of course been master play with that move. Even 3. Bc4 is quite playable. There are games in the database here on chess.com with moves up until 4.. d6, but no further.

But 5. a3 is completely devoid of merit. It accomplishes nothing and gives Black an important tempo. This is not "book" by any definition of the word as I understand it.

I will have to look at chess.com's database, but other databases I have looked at show very few 2. d4  MASTER games against other masters. 365chess.com shows 147 master games going this route out of 45,000 symmetrical King pawn openings. And I'm willing to bet a good portion of those were speed chess.

The incident level is much higher in non-master chess. Granted at my level and that of the original poster, any opening is playable.

JamieKowalski

Just a guess, but I'd think there were probably a higher percentage of high level players using this 100 years ago.
