@southpawsam, that is the Fried Liver; it is too dangerous.   Also, generally, I prefer to not get my Queen ouut early, it is only in this line where I think it adequate.

Soooo.... are u still in this conversation any1?  Any more suggestions?

Okay, here is a list of improvements for black in your line.  Black should have an equal game or a slight advantage.

9...Na5 as Marvellosity stated earlier.  I would never consider moving the rook to b8.  That plan is way too slow.

12...Bxf3 13.gxf3 g5 14.Bg3 Nh5 is very risky, but might be a better option for black.

14...Bxe3+ 15.fxe3 Bxg4 wins a pawn.

15...hxg5 16.Bxg5 Bh5 and the white knight is attacked and pinned again.  Black will follow up with 17...b4 attacking white's queenside.

Southpawsam's line is the Bogoljubow Variation.  The Fried Liver Attack is the following line:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5 6.Nxf7?!

The Lolli Attack is an improved version of the Fried Liver with 6.d4!

Would you consider playing b4 and then Qb3 ? Or is the long castling indispensable with.

The first diagram shows my new variation, which has come from your suggestions, and the second was the old variation.   Once again, thank you!

PLEASE COMMENT ON THE NEW VARIATION!!!!!!!!Laughing

I prefer 8...a5 to 8...a6 as it weakens white's queenside pawns and allows black to reroute his knight to the kingside.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.d3 Bc5 5.Nbd2 d6 6.c3 0-0 7.b4 Bb6 8.a4 a5 9.b5 Ne7 and the knight will have a very nice home on g6.

@Conquistador, but do you think the opening is sound?

Avatar of Conquistador

It is sound, but not very ambitious.  When I have played these positions as black, I found them to be much easier than the main lines.
