Can anyone tell me why is this opening unpopular? I find it a very solid and flexible opening. At example after 1. e3 e5 2. d4 exd4 3. exd4 d5 white has a few solid choices such as 4. c4, 4. Bf4 or 4. Nf3

U want to transpose to an exchange french? Why not, but not the most fun way to open a game...

But there is no problem with this move of course, cannot be bad.

So there is nothing wrong with saragossa opening too? 

 

For example reversed caro-kann ;=)
