Wayward Queen Attack

I don't know about this - it seemed that Nakamura's line was perfectly playable at the 2650 level (in which he played it regularly and often).
I sometimes run into it with black - it seems that white is not doing any worse than he does with other openings, again, if he knows what he's doing.
So playable, yes. Maybe even Magnus will once use it as a joke, to defeat someone rated 2740 or so (or So ?!?)

I can still remember being a much weaker player and being a bit scared of that queen - who knows where it might go, what it might take...
The weaker player doesn't have very good board vision, and such a queen can be a real danger!
You stop using that "strategy" (getting the Q out and trying to eat everything) once you suffer some painful defeats and see that it doesn't work...
Nevertheless, there are apparently pretty sound lines in the "Wayward Queen" opening, at least for us amateurs.

Good to know. I knew that he played it but was unaware of the rather dismal statistics... probably whatever draws and wins he did get were thanks to being Nakamura, rather than the merits of the opening.
I never play it myself as white, and as black I guess that my results against it are pretty much what I get against any other opening... but obviously it's a very different level.

I lost a game recently because of a tiredness blunder late game. Otherwise I think I have like an 80% win rate against this opening once I learnt the best response. I say 80% because I do occasionally get tired and may silly mistakes late game but I haven't been checkmated by this opening for a while. I swear I get this opening once every 5 games minimum.
Why is it so popular when it wastes development for putting your queen in positions where it's easily vulnerable then lets you develop while chasing it around the board? I saw a game where a GM played it to a balanced opening position but players I face are 750 to 1050 at the moment and they seem to not bother actually studying the position in depth so they can use it to trap you in tom-foolery later.
Why?
