If you got to 1989 without having good opening knowledge, then you're probably a good enough player that you can understand opening theory. I always go to YouTube to learn openings. It's really nice because they actually move the pieces and can show you the lines; books just use diagrams. You can also check in databases, but don't rely solely on what the database says. Novelties are found sometimes that make a line that used to be bad/unpopular better. Good luck!

Hi, all
I have been playing chess for about 7 years, but 8years ago I gave up chess didn't play any more. It is a few month that I have started again, I am very passionate about chess.
My national rating was 1989 8 years ago
But the problem is the opening part of it. I am not very good at the opening. And I don't know right way to learn them. Is the right way to read books? What is the best one? Thanks for your time.
