What is your favorite chess opening and why?

I tried looking up what this beginning is officially called but I haven't had any luck yet. I sacrifice the bishop to place the king in check. Your opponent is forced to take the bishop ruining his chances at castling.

I don't really have a favourite one, I just play them.

The bongcloud

That opening is really lousy, and is a sure fire way never to reach above even 1500.

The scotch, because it is the best.

@paigeadam, 1. Your rating tells everything...2. At higher levels, you will NEVER, EVER find an opponent playing 2...f6?! In the Bishop's opening, as the pawn isn't even attack! And 3. The sacrifice is just not sound. With good play (Not even perfect) Black can easily keep himself out of problems and keep the extra piece.

Back on topic, my favorite opening as white is the Ponziani-Opening:

And as black the Latvian gambit:

Adam,

terrible opening, it doesn't get much worse than your suggestion, stopping your opponent from castling is worth maybe a pawn, not a whole piece (worth three pawns). I suggest you invest in a beginner's book or upgrade your membership to take advantage of Chess Mentor on this site.

Best regards.

My favourite opening is the King's Gambit, it leads to short tactical games that are exciting, real seat of the pants stuff.

The Philidor Counter Gambit--- it's wild, wayward, and fun.  Almost pure tactics and very little positional considerations until the end game.

Hate sicilian. Think it is the stupidest move ever. White, queens gambit accepted, Black Caro Kann Against e4 and queens gambit against d4

My favorite opening is to walk up to a hot babe in a bar and ask her if it hurt? What? Did it hurt when you fell from heaven LOL! Works better then, "I think I lost my Congressional Medal of Honor somewhere around here ;-)) Come on Bobby said E4 and I win what more do you need?

Excuse me, but I think I dropped something, MY JAW!!

That dress looks great on you...as a matter of fact, so would I.

ok ok jokes over, but anyway, anything opening that has the word bayonet in it is good enough for me.

Chill out. He wasn't trying to call you an idiot, he was trying to offer helpful advice. There was nothing particularly mean about how he phrased his comment, either.
