What player in history probably has the best win to lose ratio?

There werent so many super tournaments available in Fischer's day... were there any ?  If the GMs of today that are 2700+ played in more tough Open events there wouldnt be so many 2700+ GMs I dont believe . Many of them keep their ratings inflated by only playing " super tournies" .  I also think it would help if the winners of the top Open tournies were also included in some of the elite events . Isnt the winner of the Aeroflot Open allowed to play in Dortmund ?

As for winning percentage Morphy's is the highest I have seen so far. Keres also had over 70% and was never world champion.

Drakodan

If we're going JUST by percentage, Morphy. Chessgames lists him at 84%.

For solid consistency against stiff competition, I'd have to say Capablanca. Going for over 8 years without a single loss in tournament chess is unthinkable today at the top level.

Why does everyone forget about Gioachino Greco? He never lost, well of course he was in the very old era of chess, still he was unbeaten then Laughing

Is there any reliable proof of this ?  I have never seen any .   Even IF that is true who did he play ?

grandbrother, it is not a lie at all. I can give the circumstances if you wish and how it happened. [I have told the story before and it is 100% true]

[I have  lot of weird but true chess stories all true]

Substanciate your claim if any at all.

Bring up a formidable proof that you were the longest reigning amateur of all time with the longest streak of unbeaten.

Then we crown you as the one who takes the credit title of this heading.

Good luck to those how so ever little in number to show up in that event of yours!

I like your humorLaughing

The answer is: the one who played weaker opponents.

Sorry Taylor, I just run into your profile and found about you.

Respect, Peace, and Best wishes for you.

I thougt you were an amateur Sir, but you turned up to be one of the best of the USA chess correspondence players.

I am sorry again. may be what you said deserves to be looked at and given consideration and added to the history of chess.

Thanks :)

I do not claim to be the person with the longest winning streak as it is possible someone has more than my 4000 plus. Please do not put words in my mouth.  I have a lot of very weird records.  For one, I have bowled

357 perfect games [300 games 12 strikes in a row] in the last 5 years. [this is not a record but pretty good]

Another, well have many...

1590 to1625 ,old era seems an understatement.

Ok. I will get a short version. I am age 15 and standing in a room filled with teachers.  They are all hired to be playground supervisors during the summer at various schools through out Decatur Illinois.  I had a motor scooter [legal back then to ride one age age 15] I was hired at the same salary as the teachers ass chess instructor for about 30 schools. Back in 1956 I received the outstanding salary of $1.00 per hour--not bad then and same as the teachers.

Each time I arrived at a school there would be 10 or more children lined up with their chess sets and I would do a simul.  When someone lost they would set up the board again.  And then later to another school and then one more during the day with the same senario.

There was only one kid very good and he was blind. I made a special chess board for him with little boxes for each square. But hard for a non blind person to see. After several games I hung my queen and resigned to him--had hung my queen before against others and won.

This was about the half way point of the first summer.  After that I won all my games for the rest of the summer and then the next year/summer won every single game!

a very conservative estimate was that I won 4000 games in a row with out a draw or loss.  True story.

1595 to 1625 old era--may be a slight understatement

Still, he was unbeaten, can't argue with that Laughing

By the way the bowling over 350 perfect games-before anyone jumps on me it was Wii bowling [but still not that easy] I had some on facebook...
