I'm currently starting to learn the Scheveningen defence for black. I really like the complicated and fascinating lines but the problem is that white has a lot of effective weapons against it. Furthermore, the positions are far from simple and easy to understand (at least for a 1100 like me).

The Keres Attack happened.

I think it's still probably totally fine at our level. It just lost relevance compared to the Najdorf, as the Najdorf is more flexible and can transpose into the Scheveningen. a6 is normally played in the Scheveningen anyway.

Maybe the tempo on a6 can sometimes be used for other things. In the Scheveningen - Fischer-Sozin Attack, a5 can be a useful move, for example.
