e4 opens up more diagonals and leaves it more vulnerable there so games are more dynamic like with the ruy lopez to contest the weak central e pawns.
d4 well then you'd do queens gambit or try to overpower the indian defenses and these games are more patient. these are more positional than e4.
c4 just transposes to other stuff. like reversed sicilian, catalan, classic kings indian, etc.
White gains powerful attacking chances, and it is much harder to stop then it looks.
