Traxler is super fun but I can't imagine playing 2 knights in the first place is optimum

One could also try warm milk and chocolate chip cookies too. They're good for an upset stomach....brought on by eating organ meat.

I would certainly recommend the Na5 lines over the others tbh, I don't find them all that labour intensive and black seems to get good play in all lines

Here's my best attempt at explaining it. I'm obviously late, but maybe it'll help someone out.

The 5. - Na5 move that you suggested is indeed the best. But that means that you avoid the Fried liver, which would be 5. - Nxd5? 6. Nxf7.

Calling the entire Ng5 line as the "Fried liver attack" is a misnomer. The real Fried liver is the 6. Nxf7 sacrifice, which never happens in high level play, because black never allows it.

Id suggest playing something along the lines of the d5->Na5 line- Although black loses a pawn - you get initiative and a easy to play position. For an example game - you can look at my personal blog - i have posted one post which features a game in the line with my annotaions.

Is this really good though? After d5, and a couple more trades, you end up with isolated pawns, bad for your position. And, as you said, you are down a pawn.
