Which Is The Best Variation Against The Sicilian Defence

Which is the best variation? Open Sicilian, Alapin Variation, Moscow/Rossolimo Variation, Grand Prix Attack, Closed Sicilian,or some other move?

i play open against sicilian.

This is like asking "which one is better 1.d4 or e4".

It all depends on what you like. 

e4 c5 Be2 e6 f3 Nc6 g4 Qh4 is my preferred line when playing black

Deep Blue loved the Alapin since it almost guarantees that a computer (mind you, I say computer, not a person) will always maintain a slight advantage no matter the response.

Well I guess for most of the people the best Variation is the one which you understand the most. If you are asking from a practical standpoint I think Rossolimo does seem to be at least uncomfortable for Nc6 sicilian players, although Black is of course fine.I hope this helps

I simply play ....Nf6 against the Alapin. It's not that scary. In fact, if you look it up on Game Explorer, it doesn't score as well in Master Games as standard approaches against the Sicilian. The standard 2. Nf3 (or even 1. Ne2--but that seems too complicated) show an edge for white. Game Explorer shows chances equal with 2. c3.

I play Smith morra defence. There are a load of traps black can fall into if not prepared and has to play very precisely for an equal game. d6?! is a blunder unless they play e6 soon.

e6 and e5 is okay for black(I think) There are quite a few videos on this opening. Yet if you are more experienced you can play something like the alapin.

Against the Smith-Morra, you can throw a monkey wrench into their plans after 1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3, by playing 3....Nf6 and converting it into an Alapin.

Still Mating_Threat, go with the Smith Morra;  it'll most likely be unknown to them and indeed, many traps to fall into for Black.  It's a blast to make them sweat.  Lots to learn there;  the main line goes something like this (although they'll seldom follow the main line and you can often trap their Queen or run a reversed version of Fried Liver Attack on them.  I'm still learning it, so critique away those that are better at it...but this is something of which you can run.  Get the book Mayhem in the Morra!  Probably the very best book on the SM.

Flipping the board over, scattering the pieces and complaining they didn't play 1 . . . e5 stops the Sicilian in its tracks.

I've been playing the Alapin, aka c3 Sicilian, 1 e4 c5 2 c3 where the typical game goes 2...Nf6 3 e5 Nd5 4 d4 cxd4 5 cxd4 d6 and White has a number of aggressive alternatives stemming from Bc4 or f4 and Black is usually not in a position to launch the Q-side attack that's typical of a "d4 cxd4" normal Sicilian.

I personally prefer the Najdorf. Smith Morra or Grand Prix Attack is also ok. However, I don't suggest playing super duper cuper popular variations in professional matches if you are not super duper cuper familiar about it because your opponent will most likely be more familiar than you. Trust me, I made that mistake countless times in tournaments.
