Imo i like the italian

It's hard to pick one opening because, no matter what pawn you pick to move first, you will get a variety of responses from black. So, pick a primary first move pawn and then learn how to work both sides of the board, black and white. At 800 points, I'd probably lean to openings where you lead with a centre pawn, d4 or e4. Of the two, I don't think there is a significant difference between either one. Choose the one with the defences you'd rather face. ie. If you are ok facing the sicilian, french and e5 defences, lead with e4. If you prefer playing against king's indian, queen's indian or queen pawn games, pick d4.
