As the title says. Not a big opening theorist but which ones do you feel are fun to play with at the 1400-1600 level?

Ok so this is a good question I would probably think the rarely played gambit that was named after a Nazi sympathizer called Emil Joseph Diemer, THE BLACKMARK-DIEMER GAMBIT is not like losing by force and here's a variation: 1. d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3 exf3 5.Nxf3 and you just simply develop your piece also the Raptor Variation of the Trompowsky or the Trompowsky itself is pretty good! VARIATION: 1. d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 Ne4 3.h4 c5 4.d5 Qb6 5.Nd2 Nxd2 6.Bxd2 Qxb2 7.e4 even though white is a pawn down the position is good because of more development and the Queen will just be locked away on the Queenside.

I like the london system and caro kann for more solid positional play

the kings indian defense is a lot of fun and much more aggressive

Well, Black has numerous options, but the main line is 1.b4 e5 2.Bb2 Bxb4 3.Bxe5 Nf6 4.c4 O-O 5.Nf3 Nc6 6.Bb2 Re8 7.e3 d5 8.cxd5 Nxd5 9.Be2

I've hear about the colle, it's very related to english right? Why would you play it instead of the english when your bishop's already out?

I agree, those are good openings though I haven't played the Caro as far as I can remember.

not the precise move order, you'd want to play nbd2 first and prepare ne5 but I just wanted to show what a middlegame will look like
