I'm afraid my favorites are the French defence, and the King's Indian Attack or Defence. I do play the Ruy Lopez, however, and I enjoy playing it every now and then.

The English Opening was named after Johnny English, who first played it back in 2004.
I thought the English Opening was alternately named the Staunton opening after Howard Staunton, who also designed the chess sets that are used in tournaments today? Didn't he play it a few times in his match with Saint-Amant?
