@bobyyyy: You are forgetting that after 1.e4 c5 white has 2.Ke2, the bongcloud opening, sicilian variation. White has a clear edge there due to his active king position.
why d4 is better than e4
lol @ clear edge
I mean, I know it's true... because I found it on the internet:
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/ultimate-guide-to-bongcloud-opening
2..Ng8: 20 losses. yeah,
I'd love the bongcloud, except for one tiny little flaw. pieces are better than kings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I remember correctly, out of my 8 live games with the Bongcloud, I drew 1, won 6 and lost 1. That means the Bongcloud refutes all other openings!!!!! Go Bongcloud!
The key here may be that you play the bongcloud. Chances are pretty good you don't remember correctly if you're playing the bongcloud regularly.
In FDA studies, 1.d4 has been shown to effectively replace a number of soporific pharmaceutical substances.
That seems backwards...I've seen numerous sources claiming that 1.g4 is the worst legal move on move 1, and I'm almost inclined to believe it(I do think 1.f3 is worse though). I do have 100% score with the Grob against masters though.
Half serious, half not. d4 & c4 are probably best, but I like playing the Grob & the Polish. Not a fan of f4, at all. And I just hate e4. I know I'm not right, I just know what I enjoy.
Why is d4 > e4? One word: control! With e4, there is a higher probability that the position explodes out of nothing.
Just take the other persons king off the board...simples ;) - no seriously though I like the d4 as it adds spice and normally throws my opponent off guard (which reminds me....I never did understand why an opponent of mine said 1.d4 was illegal, because it looked weird??) Maybe someone can answer me that :)
Why is 1.d4 better than 1.e4? That's easy!!
Because 1.d4 is one file closer to 1.c4. The King of all openings!!
I have a thick book on Unorthodox Openings by Eric Schiller. I'll give that book a try.
I heard that "Unorthodox Openings" by Eric Schiller is one of the hands-down greatest books ever written. It'll be sure to raise your chess rating by 500 points in the first 30 days, guaranteed!
Cheers,
Becky

Don't listen to Becky's hogwash. Eric Schiller is one of the worst authors out there. He published a book every two week in the first 2 to 3 years of the 21st century. Here's my review on Amazon.com from the first edition of Standard Chess Openings (also by Schiller), and below that I included a few reviews from the Unorthodox Chess Openings (which Tony Miles, when he was alive, used two words to describe it, "Utter Crap"):
Well, I think you get the point from the heading of this review.
First of all...the analysis is terrible. For example, in the game between Ivanchuk and Shirov in the section on the Semi-Slav defense, he gives 23...d4!! as such an excellent move...it's a BLUNDER!!! Black loses 12 moves later with no way to improve his moves. Matthew Sadler in his book on the semi-slav (Game 1) even points out it's a blunder. Let's see now...Sadler is in the top 50 in the world, Schiller is a United States National Master (The United States is WEAK compared to other countries, and I come from the USA). I think with White winning, no ?'s by either side after move 23, and Sadler being much higher ranked...I'd trust him over schiller.
Spelling Issues: I don't think I need to dive into the "horible mispelings dat dis buuk iz ful of, as the othur revues alrady writen wil point dis out".
Grammar Issues: Also all you have do is read introduction to already see grammar really really bad.
Finally, what do you call a dumb statement like "some lines I cover more simply because I know them better" in an introduction to a book for what is obviously a beginner? Does this mean that if Schiller say, knows the Torre Attack, but doesn't know the Trompowsky Attack, he basically would just make up junk as he goes along?
What is this author trying to do to the chess world? It seems to me that he figures he's obviously not good enough to write a real book that an expert would read, so let's just sucker the beginners into buying his books...they'll fall for buying his junk, waste their money, and will Schiller care...heck no!!! He's got all the money in the world now.
DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!
Reviews from his Unorthodox book:
Miles' two-word review in Kingpin magazine of this typical Schiller book: "utter crap." (Miles was noted for unorthodox play himself, btw. For example, he famously won a game against Anatoly Karpov by responding to 1. e4 with 1... a6.)
Schiller is noted for sloppy database-dump books with lots and lots of errors. Use your chess funds for books that will teach you something valuable and are written by real players. Try authors like Silman, Nunn, Gallagher, Gligoric, Seirawan, Euwe, and Emms. All of these authors are MUCH better players and also use time and care in writing their books.
The late Tony Miles, a grandmaster, once reviewed this book for a magazine. Here was his review, in its entirety.
"Utter crap". I concur wholeheartedly. This book should never have been printed. I mourn the loss of the thousands of trees that were chopped down to provide the wood pulp necessary to print this blight upon the chess world.
I cannot express in strong enough language that this book should be avoided at all costs. Real chess players do not own this book. Ask anyone in the chess community if this book should be purchased, and once their laughter dies down, you'll get a "No."
If you wish to read a real opening manual, purchase Modern Chess Openings instead of wasting your money on this.

Yeah, the question is on making chess funnner. winning is more fun than losing.
