Why play the winawer?

I'm not sure what your point is. The line you've shown, with 8.Qxg7, is known to be inferior. Better is 8.bxa5 dxc3 9.Qxg7 Rg8 10.Qxh7, and white has a slight edge. Smyslov clobbered Botvinnik with this line all the way back in 1954 in their World Championship match.

I'm not saying white has a huge advantage. I'm just saying, again, if you want to play the Winawer, be prepared to give up your DSB. In most cases, you'll get a better game than trying to hang on to it. If you want to keep that bishop, just go 3...Nf6 and follow up with Be7. Interesting is the Morozevich variation, 3...Nf6 4.Bg5 dxe4 5.Nxe4 Be7 6.Bxf6 gxf6.

yeah i used the wrong move order, but wouldnt they transpose?

I guess not. Apparently, the difference is that after 8.Qxg7 Rg8 9.Qxh7, black has time to retreat the bishop to c7. Since white's knight is still en prise, jumping to b5 to harass the bishop doesn't work, as now black can just grab the e-pawn.

Again, it's debatable who's better here. Engine I looked at likes white by about 0.3. after 11.Nf3 Rh8 12.Qd3. But DB shows more wins for black. There's even a loss by Bobby Fischer in a simul!

Anybody can cherry-pick wins or losses. Despite the fact that you cherry-picked 3 losses, I also have a few wins and a whole slew of draws with the French there as well.

black gets compensation for the doubled c pawns

The point is from my perspective is the French although a tough nut to crack can also be a realty rough go as well not that I looked hard at the above games ,but I'm guessing white just needs exceptional patience on thier end to put the screws to black
