The Winawer Counter Gambit is a very interesting reply to the Queens Gambit
1.d4 d5 2.c4. The moves are 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nc3 e5. See game that I posted
with the Winawer Counter Gambit.

The following game is a Winawer Counter Gambit game against the 13 year old kid
master Jordy Mont-Renaud 2250. This game was played at the First Hawaii

International where the Hawaii State Champions took on the International team.

The popularity of the Winawer Counter Gambit appears to go in cycles of so many years. The last time it was popular at the GM level was with some sensational wins
with the Black side. I believe Karpov lost to GM Bareev. This gambit dates back to
the begining of the 20th century with GMs Frank Marshall.

I experimented with this line back in 1996.  Seems OK.  And it is Jordy Mont-Reynaud (not Renaud), who was, at one time, America's youngest master and one of my students.

The 2 games were good games. You played that game
well. The line you went into was actually a Reversed
French Defense. This is one of the declined lines
most commonly played.
