Would You Play This???

This is one of my favorite openings.

It dosen't take any central control and certainly doesn't develop any pieces, but it is rarely played and hard to meet.  I ahve played it against all comers, leaving some beautiful games behind. My best win was against someone rated 1400 (Actually, he was the best rated player I tried it against).

So the big question is, would you try it???

southpawsam

Someone look at this post

gwinkelca

It may throw off some opponents but in general you're just loosing out on developing your center. To answer your question: No, I wouldn't try it.

modernchess

I would not play it for anything but the surprise element. It's basically giving black the initiative in my opinion.

goldendog

Surprise value, takes the opponent out of book...that's about it.

southpawsam

You are all worng.

I am playing right now and have had three players and they all have lost badly

Any more comments

Biarien

Well, if everyone is wrong because you said so, what more do you expect people to say?

Seriosity

I would only play it against weaker players. I wouldn't take it seriously.

Are you really in your 40s?

southpawsam

No I am 50Wink

I beat a 1400 in a national tournament. How much more proof do you need?

ryutan

id not play it, you give black the initiative possibly the center and development, but realisticly, you will just transpose into another opening in which you could have played a3, giving black the time to commit himself.

i have live chess long games at 1400, and i can tell you that is no test of an openings soundness, it doesnt matter how you open its just who blunders most.

That's still a small rating.

 Coooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmme On!!!!

I love other people's opinions, I just don't have to agree with you.

I just want to see if any of you have played it or have any comments on it.

chesstrophy

I have heard of this opening and it's strange but I want to try it only I might not take the risk.

I wasn't asking for proof of anything, actually.

It just seemed to me that you weren't responding very maturely to the people who took the time to respond to your question.

Most of them were good responses yet you said they they (the posters) were all wrong.

In fact they were good responses. 1.a3 is in fact mainly good for surprise value, taking the opponent out of book, and is the closest thing white can play that says to black "I pass. You be white."

I'm just wondering about your maturity because it seems that you'd rather be right than educated about the subject of your post.

If you think we are all wrong about 1. a3 then post some evidence to that effect.

I have been trying to post a game for the last hour, but I can't get it to work. Give me a few more minutes to try to get it working.
