half of my opponents end up giving up

i almost never finish and win a game because my opponent often gives up, even if he could still win (if I eat just ONE rook, *your opponent gave up*)... is there a game style where it's impossible to give up? you should add this option, in my case I NEVER give up (only sometimes if my last main piece is the king, because I know that my opponent won). Basically, I win 1/4 of my games, loose 1/2, and the last part i don't know since they f****ing give up before 😡 it's so frustrating, it's a loose of time playing against them. how do you feel about it? what solution do you have for that?

i can see where players resign quickly in blitz and bullet- especially in the lower brackets

longer time controls might afford some relief but the combination of all the crazies encountered in the sub 1000 and the pressure of blitz make this an issue of just getting out of that rating level

You're definitely right, in real life though, people don't just let their clocks run out, they play until the end and are not leaving the game without saying anything. That's respect I guess (I don't know the word in english). And that's what a lot of players lack when they start loosing (losing ?) on Internet. That's why I hoped there could be a kind of room for players who accept the challenge to play until the end, whether they are winning or loosing. And of course no one would let their clocks run out. Let me be utopist :D

I always wonder how people expect this to be implemented.  Should chess.com employ enforcers who go to peoples' houses and force them to keep playing at gun point?

Do we have to go to this point in real life ? it's childish to give up that quickly.

thank you for your answer, i saw more people resigning in 30 minutes games, it's frustrating when you make your strategy thoroughly thanks to this long time preparation, in this case the opponent withdrawal is frustrating.

Resigning is the normal way of conceding defeat in chess.  The sooner you appreciate this, the better, because it's not going to change, now or ever.

When you are no longer a beginner, you will discover that chess games are effectively decided long before checkmate is reached, and playing out a won game to checkmate is actually just going through the motions and not particularly interesting.  Your opponent is doing you a favour by giving you the victory then and there, instead of wasting time for both of you by dragging it out.

For example, your recent game against Method7:

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2796721427

If your opponent has run out of pieces, what do you expect them to do?  Just sit there shuffling around while you take your sweet time to checkmate them?  Have some respect for your opponent and allow them to concede defeat, instead of forcing them to sit there in a game they can no longer win, just to stroke your ego.  Playing on in that situation is not fun for the losing player.

hi Boggle, yes at the beginning it was probably about my ego, things have already changed since I started this topic :) in that game you mentionned you're right, I was definitely the winner of this game since he had only his king. I accept it now. I'm thinking more about people who loose their queen or only one rook, then they give up so quickly, even if they have all chances to win the game. it happened too many times so I was a bit mad when I wrote the topic ^^

See this one : https://www.chess.com/live/game/2797468015 I'm sorry but i feel so frustrated when i see that. He just lost one rook ! He can still win, I could do a huge mistake since I often do some! that's the main reason I started this topic, I admit it's not happening this way though

A whole rook is considered a decisive material advantage.? Playing on a rook down in the hope of a blunder is not really much fun, because there is little realistic hope of winning.? I don't see why this frustrates you unless you're upset at being denied the opportunity to toy with an already defeated opponent.

At the OP's level, NO ONE should EVER resign.
