Hungarian GM Laszlo Szabo in 1981 wrote a book "100.000 moves in 50 years". That can be approx. 50-60 games a year, quite normal at that time.
Nowadays we can play far more, over the board and on internet. Tell me your age and the number of games you approx. played, against human beings, not against a computer. Try to give some details and : lets start at 20.000 games as minimum.
Pending the answers, we might refine the question, perhaps raise the minimum, and : whether you have a fulltime job or just not, lets make a nice series of posts !
Well, I am 75 years old and have been playing since I I was five; but there were many years when I didn[t play at all. At 5 a year taht would be 350. Hmmm! 500.
only about 200 otb, around 10000 online, check my blitz ! :)
He was probably talking about tournament games only. People still played blitz, but it was at the club instead of online.
I'd guess about 30,000 for me over the last 10 years.
I teach Chess in Central New Jersey= See my Chess teaching portal
I've played probably + 100.000 since 2001 ,but most of them in blitz or bullet.
20,000 games x 40 moves average= 800,000 moves in 2 years.
i think near 20000 games
Approx. 12,000 in 2.5 years. On average, about 12.25 games/ day (5 minutes/ side). Close to 2,000 hours -- so far away from the proverbial 10,000 hours to attain mastery.
I played 500 games in last year.
