I'm confused, and I was wondering if any good chess players could help me (I'm an amateur/beginner)

so I try to play at least one game of chess every day. I have now gotten to a point where I can hold my own, but when I have more players then the opposite team who only has a king left, I alway get a draw, because their king moves 1 space away from my 4 pieces. I was wondering shouldn't I automatically win when the opposite king has no one left to defend him?

No. There are no automatic wins.

You have to learn how to do checkmates and how to avoid stalemates or draws by threefold repetition of position.

I recommend practicing with the endgame drills. start with queen and king versus king, then go to rook and king versus king.

Once you have learned a few basic mates, other mates will become easier.
