If I was a betting man, I would bet my house that Garry was provoked.
Kasparov bad role model for others

^^^Will you look at the American flags all criticizing Putin? It's comedy.
TV says Putin bad, Americans say Putin bad...
So you think Putin is good?
Well, he hasn't bombed seven countries in his term like our president has. He didn't help overthrow the government of Ukraine like our government did. He doesn't have military bases at our doorstep like we have at his. He doesn't sound completely fake like our president does. So I guess he seems more pragmatic and rational than most officials in our government. That's better than bad.
I don't like Putin or Obama. I don't approve of Obama's policies. But you didn't answer the question: do you think Putin is good? (i.e., do you approve of Putin's policies?)
I think we ought to mind our own house.
Does that mean that we should not criticize Putin? (or any other tyrant?) Can't we "mind our own house", AND criticize injustice anywhere else it occurs? Or are we supposed to just look the other way and keep quiet when Putin's thugs harass protestors and assassinate political opponents?

With over 85% approval rating from the Russian people, it's hard to say Putin is a tyrant. You know what Mr. Kasparov would like to happen in his country? He would just love U.S. supported regime change--one of those fake 'colour revolutions'. He wants our government to stick their big noses in Russia. He's nuts. Loopier than a corkscrew. The anti-Russian cabal here just love the hell out of him, because they're just as nuts as he is. Do you want to get involved with criticizing the Russian's goverment when our government is an absolute mess?

Yes, I want to criticize our government (specifically assassination-by-drone, widespread warrantless surveillance), and also Putin's policy of human rights violations (unreasonably long prison sentences for protestors, assassination of opposition leaders, oppression of homosexuals). And while I'm at it, I also want to criticize oppression of women, and religious intolerance in Muslim counties.
I don't accept the premise that a person can't criticize other countries' policies until his/her own country achieves perfection. Should citizens of non-U.S. countries remain silent about U.S. policies if their own countries are imperfect?
Regarding Putin's high electoral support: do you think that being elected makes a leader immune to criticism? If so, this make your criticism of Obama a bit hypocritical.
Should we have refrained from questioning the policies of Nixon/Reagan/Bush when those American presidents were in office?

I would use the word "ought" over "can't", like Americans ought to focus on their own country. I would also use the word "respectable" over "perfection". Americans ought to make their own country more respectable in the eyes of the world before having the gall to criticize the Eastern governments of the world.
There is more than enough human rights violations coming from the U.S. and it's allies to make one lose sleep over if you're in the mood to criticize governmental policies. But for Americans to hop on the 'evil Putin' bandwagon without being embarrassed over the hypocrisy of it all leads me to believe that those Americans are propagandized zombies.
"Garry Kasparov, a Russian democracy activist and former world chess champion, has appeared in court facing five years of prison over allegations that he bit a policeman whilst in custody."
Even non chess players no who he is! Obviously, very good at chess. And others like to follow him. Right? But, they will also follow his temper problems as well right?
Just let me know what you think :)
Kasparov attacking the policemen:
The wound that could have given Kasparov five years in prison, if there hadn't been photo evidence of it from before the above attack:
