I've no way to gauge is endgame ability, but what really seems to distinguish him from some of the other top-tier players is his ability to assess how an objectively equal position still offers practical chances for a win and his determination to test his opponents in these kinds of positions.
Level of Carlsens engame and positional ability?
I do believe that even though he has such an elevated reputation for his technique, he does have an ability to a
ttack that's among the best. Many examples are out there but he seems to do a Nakamura on Nakamura when he plays him. He does superb against other attacker/aggressive styles also. I'm a fan of his style in that he plays openings that seem to force his opponents to think over the board as opposed to prep work. His openings seem simplistic.

What is the general concensus among masters regarding Carlsens endgame ability (yet one more example: today's game with Karjakin) and his general strategic/positional skills? How do his skills in these areas compare with Capablanca, Karpov, etc.? OMG, wait till he decides to focus on opening refinement like his opponents do........
