I'm an unperson, and I think I've been treared fairly.

Oh, well, uh ...I thought it was something else.

He's had his account for over two years. Why would he have to close it?

That's what I was wondering.  If it's just a matter of needing more time for other things one could still leave the account open, even if you don't intend to play at all.

The unperson policy here really sucks.  A lot of good posts disappear because chess.com is so anxious to rid themselves of any presence of ex-members.

 I agree.

I suspect that it's an unfortunate consequence of wanting to quickly be able to eradicate any and all posts by spammers and those that come in here flooding the site with inappropriate material -- delete the user, purge the forums.

They really need to decouple these two things though.

He did post some good stuff. It's a shame it's gone.

Could be.  Most of those type, where a high majority of their posts would be getting deleted even if their accounts stay open, seem to flame out pretty quickly.

It would be nice if they were decoupled, but that seems unlikely.  Just in the past couple weeks there seems to have been an acceleration of proactive forum control by the moderators in terms of deletions and interference, including one where first a thread was locked with 29 comments, and then it was unlocked and all comments had been removed except the first 2 or 3 .  Now that thread is gone completely.  And there was something or other about a post by Atos that was altered by a moderator, rather than cropped or deleted, but that thread is gone too, so I don't know what was going on there.  It looks like Big Brother has been given new marching orders.

It had to be a sudden decission because he had just changed his avatar name, and also had just said he didn't want to play a rated game with me because if he lost on time, it would affect his rating.

knock it off woodshover, you didn't have to go bold and red just to prove your point or just to get your message across.

Hm...there may be a clue to honda's further actions (somewhere in here).

Anyway, yeah, too bad we lost the guy.  He was one of my favorite people on the forums.

How is that a clue? I was just making the point that his decision to quit was sudden.

A former member here. He posted a lot, I'm surprised you don't know him, having been here for a couple of years.

The fact that he was worried about losing on time might suggest that he was already thinking about leaving the site.

What he said was "I want to play unrated, in case I lose on time. I also want to play 10 days per move to make that less likely." So it doesn't sound like he was planning on deleting his account to me. Why would he care about losing on time anyway, if he was planning on leaving? He's all ready losing one game against Phil on time.

I agree, that doesn't make any sense.
