Steinitz's sharp tongue

The following appears in Horowitz's "The World Chess Championship, A History".

// Steinitz never had much patience with the hoi polloi. One anecdote about him concerns a fellow who had the temerity to come up to him one day and remark, "Herr Steinitz, I really cannot understand your play in this game."

"Naturally," Steinitz is said to have replied. "Did you ever see a monkey toying with a watch?"//

Ouch! That's a pretty sharp-tongued reply. Steinitz was known as a rather acerbic, combative person and this reply seems quite in character.

Ha! One would hope he’s a good fighter if he said that to the wrong dude. Any more anecdotes?
